Michael Owen has predicted Liverpool to defeat Crystal Palace when the two sides meet in the league on Monday.

The retired England international shared that he thought both sides were impressive during their opening games of the new Premier League season last weekend.

Owen stated that while Palace did impress him during their 2-0 win over Fulham, he couldn’t see the Reds not taking all the points from their game against Roy Hodgson’s side.

“Liverpool looked full of goals against a slightly disappointing West Ham at Anfield on Sunday, but one could argue that the most impressive result on the opening weekend was Palace’s 2-0 win at Fulham,” wrote Owen for BetVictor.

“The Eagles were excellent on the break at Craven Cottage, but they will need to watch Liverpool on the counter attack at Selhurst Park such is the pace and quality in Jurgen Klopp’s Reds.

“It is hard to see anything other than a hugely entertaining Monday night clash with Liverpool to take the points.”

OPINION

Owen clearly believes Monday’s meeting between the two Premier League sides will be entertaining as both looked good in their matches last weekend. It was hard not to be impressed by Liverpool last Sunday after they destroyed West Ham 4-0 at Anfield as they looked capable of scoring goals for fun and inflicting misery on anyone that was unfortunate enough to face them. However Palace were equally as happy last weekend after they recorded a comfortable victory against The Cottagers who had made some very impressive signings in the summer in order to improve their squad. It’ll be interesting to see if Palace can put up more of a fight than the Hammers did against the Reds as Manuel Pellegrini’s side practically made it easy for the Reds to run riot. Yet everyone knows that Hodgson always makes his sides hard to beat and Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane as well as Roberto Firmino will need to be on their best form in order to ensure their side take all three points.
