Michael Owen has predicted Liverpool to defeat West Ham when the two sides meet at Anfield on Sunday.

The former Reds forward stated that as the Hammers have lost 61 top-flight matches against the Merseyside giants then he expected Jurgen Klopp’s side to make a winning start to their Premier League campaign.

Owen also opted to compliment the signing of goalkeeper Alisson Becker and shared that in his opinion the Brazilian was the last puzzle piece the German manager needed in order to complete his Reds’ squad.

“West Ham have lost 61 top-flight games against Liverpool and I expect Jurgen Klopp’s side to make a winning start to the campaign although you get the impression that this new-look West Ham side will give the Reds a decent test in another game that promises goals,” wrote Owen in his blog for BetVictor.

“I feel the signing of Alisson might be the last piece of the jigsaw for Jurgen Klopp, but new Hammers’ boss Manuel Pellegrini has also been backed in the transfer market and this is another opening weekend clash that should be as entertaining as informative.”

OPINION

It seems that Owen is predicting several goals to be scored in the Reds’ Premier League opener against the Hammers despite praising the club’s new goalkeeper. It seems the retired forward believes a new-look Hammers will be able to push Klopp’s team to the limit at Anfield on Sunday but that his former side should have more than enough ability to get the win. Sunday’s game between the two Premier League sides does promise to be an intriguing affair as both clubs appear to have had a very successful summer transfers window. However the proof is in the pudding and both club’s new recruits need to live up to the hype surrounding them ahead of their competitive league debuts for their sides. With both teams potentially featuring several players making their Premier League debuts then it will perhaps come down to, which players are able to adapt to the league straight away.
