Young Liverpool talent Rafa Camacho has revealed how star striker Mo Salah has helped him raise his game this summer.

The attacker has impressed through out pre-season with the Reds, delivering some assured performances for Jurgen Klopp’s side this summer after bagging 14 goals at Academy level last term.

The 18-year-old star has also sought the guidance of Sadio Mane, who netted two goals in Liverpool’s 4-0 demolition of West Ham on Sunday.

He told the Liverpool Echo: “Knowing you are coming in every day to train with the first team is really good. I would say I feel like a more improved player for being here. Because I’m a winger I tend to look more at Salah and Mane.

“I try to pick up things from them on what they do, even just from the drills in training. Just being here means I can also ask them about anything they can teach me.

“In 12 months time I want to be playing a big part in the Premier League and the cup games for Liverpool. I want to be getting minutes on the pitch.”

OPINION

Camacho is certainly learning from the best if he is seeking advice from the likes of Salah and Mane. Salah was on fire last season, and if anybody can teach a young prospect the trade, then it is him. Mane was electric against the Hammers on Sunday, and this is the level that Camacho should be aiming to reach. Whilst this duo are playing for the first team it will prove pretty much impossible to usurp them, but fast forward a few years, and Liverpool will have themselves a fearsome on their hands. Scoring 14 goals is not a bad record for a player who largely operates as an attacking midfielder, and he must aim to improve on that season by season to maintain the attention of Klopp. He is only 18, so the Reds must nuture him well in order to mould him into a top-class player – and he could soon be following in the footsteps of Salah and Mane.
