Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet has had a tough time over the past year or so, and things may be about to get a whole lot worse for the Belgium international.

It was claimed this week by his agent, Nico Vaesen, that the 6ft 4in giant [Transfermarkt] was in talks over a move to Serie A side Napoli as he looked to end his misery at Anfield.

As quoted by The Sun, Vaesen said: “We are in discussions with Napoli, but there is no agreement yet.  In the end it is in their interest to find a solution. Liverpool want to keep Simon, but he wants to play in matches – and he should.

“He deserves to play for a big club. Simon is the best option for Napoli in terms of quality, even though there is a financial aspect to it.”

Despite Vaesen’s optimism over a deal taking place, Napoli unfortunately look to have moved on to another target, with the Guardian claiming that Arsenal stopper David Ospina has agreed a season-long loan deal with Carlo Ancelotti’s men.

Reports from multiple sources seem to corroborate this information, with Ospina looking to be on the verge of sealing this switch, which will include an option to buy.

This will come as a bitter blow to Liverpool ace Mignolet, who looked keen on a move to Napoli and hopeful that a move would materialise.

Other interest in him this summer has come from Europa League side Besiktas, but as reported by Turkish Football, they have also turned their attentions elsewhere, namely to teammate Loris Karius.

This is another blow for Mignolet as he looks to seal a move away from Anfield, and amid claims from Sky Sports that the Reds are highly unlikely to allow both Karius and the Belgian to leave, times are getting desperate for the 30-year-old.

It would be the worst case scenario for him to have to remain at Liverpool for another season sitting on the bench, with Mignolet needing to be playing regularly at this point in his career.

Where he goes from here is unclear, but with time running out in the European window he needs to secure an exit fast or face another year rotting on the sidelines at Anfield.
