Liverpool have got off to a perfect start in the 2018/19 Premier League season with three wins from their first three games putting the Reds top of the table.

A comprehensive opening day win over West Ham was followed by a 2-0 away victory over Crystal Palace and a narrow 1-0 home triumph over Brighton.

One of the more impressive aspects of Liverpool’s play so far this season has been their defence, with three clean sheets to start the season providing a stark contrast to some of the abysmal defending on show during parts of their last campaign.

Their attack has been potent enough to win them games so far, with the usual suspects like Mo Salah and Sadio Mane getting their tallies for the season up and running.

The Reds do however have a tough run of games approaching, with the prospect of facing Tottenham, Manchester City and Chelsea within four games, and that will be a big test for their title credentials.

If Jurgen Klopp does want to win the title this season then he will have to be masterful in the way he balances his squad, and there is one player he must now hand a shot to before this run of games is upon the Reds: Xherdan Shaqiri.

The summer signing has seen just eight minutes of action this season as he bides his time on the bench, but according to the Mirror the versatile forward has continually wowed Klopp in training.

Shaqiri therefore looks like he is pushing for a start and that must now come against Leicester this weekend, with the risks involved in introducing him against those big sides too high.

Rotation will be key for Klopp this term and a game against Leicester provides a good opportunity to rest a key player and give Shaqiri the chance to acquaint himself with his new teammates before that run of games.

The Swiss attacker is obviously in good form and so the Reds should not experience any side effects of introducing him to the starting XI.

It is a move which makes perfect sense for Klopp at this point in the season, and he must make it a reality this weekend.
