After Mohamed Salah was nominated for a prestigious UEFA award it confirms that he is now among the top three players in world football.

UEFA revealed on their official Twitter account that Mohamed Salah has been nominated for the 2017/18 UEFA Champions League Forward of the Season award.

The 26-year-old was named as a contender alongside star duo Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

This nomination proves that the Egyptian is among the most talented stars in world football and he can challenge for the Ballon d’Or – the award handed out to the best player from across the globe – next season.

The former Chelsea player joined the club in a reported £37.8million deal from AS Roma in July last year, in a deal that many people thought was too expensive for a player who struggled in his time at former club Chelsea. How wrong they were.

The forward went on to score an incredible 44 goals in just 52 games, which are numbers that Messi or Ronaldo would be proud of.

For the first season in a long, long time, Salah became someone who came close to the level of performances of this star duo, who have dominated the football world for over a decade.

Last season, Barcelona forward Messi scored 45 goals in 54 games, which lead to him winning the European Golden Boot. Whilst his rival Ronaldo scored 44 goals in just 44 games in all competitions for Real Madrid.

Salah was so close to those numbers last season, playing for a team that has worse quality than the huge Spanish clubs, which proves he can do even better this season.

The Reds have strengthened their squad further with the likes of Fabinho, Alisson, Naby Keita and Xherdan Shaqiri, so there’s no reason why Salah can’t go one better than either Messi or Ronaldo or both, next season. Then, finally, someone else might win the Ballon d’Or and that player may just be Salah.
