As Liverpool finally confirm the shirt numbers of their new signings, they’ve made a major mistake.

Liverpool confirmed the official shirt numbers for Alisson Becker, Fabinho and Rhian Brewster for the 2018/19 season on their official Twitter account.

Former AS Roma goalkeeper Alisson Becker has been given the number 13 shirt for the new season, whilst ex-AS Monaco defensive midfielder Fabinho has been given the number three shirt, and young striker Brewster has been given the number 24.

Giving Alisson the number 13 shirt is a major mistake as he should have been given the number one shirt.

The number one shirt currently belongs to German goalkeeper Lorius Karius, whose two huge mistakes potentially cost the club a major European trophy, as his errors led directly to goals for the opposition Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League final.

He is not the number one this season though, as they have spent a gigantic £56million fee on their new goalkeeper Alisson, who will add star quality in that position.

Why on earth would the Reds not give their new major summer signing the number one shirt? It might be a bit harsh on Lorius Karius, but that’s life, he’s no longer the first choice and should have given the number to the new goalkeeper.

It’s frankly embarrassing that the club hasn’t stepped in and taken the shirt from their second-choice ‘keeper – everybody knows that the 25-year-old Brazilian will be the absolutely nailed on to start in every single game for the Anfield outfit, so he should wear a shirt that symbolises that.

It risks annoying Alisson before the new season even starts, what must he be thinking? They’ve spent so much money on making him their headline signing and then they give him the number 13 shirt, which normally signifies that a player is a backup option.

This shirt number fiasco should be fixed immediately.
