Liverpool may have had a successful transfer window, but they should be considering adding some depth to their left-back position.

Boss Jurgen Klopp may think his transfer business is done, but the addition of another left-back would transform them into an even bigger threat.

Current left-back Andrew Robertson needs competition, with back-up Alberto Moreno looking likely to leave the club soon as he enters the last year of his contract – so step forward Ricardo Rodriguez from AC Milan.

The Daily Mail report that league rivals Arsenal are plotting a swoop for the World Cup star, however, the Reds should not take any notice of this and they must plot a raid to land him for themselves.

Every position on the field needs healthy competition and that includes the left-back role, which has been filled by mainstay Robertson during the 2017/2018 campaign.

The acquisition of another name to challenge him for a first-team spot is just what he needs to develop into an even better player, even if he does risk losing his place if Rodriguez made the move to Anfield.

AC Milan currently value their player at £30 million, a demand which Liverpool are more than capable of meeting – and it would be a worthy investment should they make a move.

The 25-year-old enforcer made 47 appearances in all competitions for the Serie A outfit, which is the type of committed player that Klopp needs in his team.

Rodriguez only made the move from Bundesliga side Wolfsburg last year, but he has quickly adapted to the Italian top-flight, which has a vastly different style to Germany’s premier division.

His adaptability indicates what a quick learner is he is, and shows that he would have no problem adapting to the competitiveness and fast-paced nature of the Premier League.

There is no guarantee that he would oust Robertson from the left-back spot if he decided to join forces with the Reds, but he would stabilise a relatively young back four that could include Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Liverpool must now plot a swoop for the 57-cap Switzerland international from right under the noses of their rivals.
