Some Liverpool fans took to Twitter in order to react to Jurgen Klopp’s injury update on defender Dejan Lovren.

The Reds manager delivered an update on the 29-year-old centre-back following his side’s 4-0 win over West Ham on Sunday and confirmed that the Croatian was set for a spell on the sidelines due to a pelvic injury.

“He is not fit. Let me say it like this, last year he already had a few problems with that but he could obviously play – and played really good,” said Klopp, as quoted by the Reds’ official website.

“Recovery days were always enough then it was not a problem and he was in the next session again. We did not train a lot in the end of the season, of course, because we were more or less constantly playing, but he played constantly.

“Now in the World Cup, [playing] three times [for] 120 minutes it got a bit worse, but I am pretty sure it will settle in the next one, two or three weeks. In that time he can probably for sure train already, but not the full programme, so that will then take time.

“In the end, it is serious but not that serious, so it’s not that we need to be afraid that it will take him until whenever. In the moment he is not available, that’s true.”

Several Reds supporters opted to share on social media that they thought their side wouldn’t miss Lovren while he was out, despite him regularly featuring for the first-team last season.

OPINION

It seems Joe Gomez’s display against West Ham was rated so highly by supporters that they are currently not fussed about Lovren being absent due to injury. However the Hammers didn’t exactly test the young centre-back and fans may quickly start to miss the experience of the Croatian international in the next few games. Lovren may have enough bloopers from his time at Anfield to fill a DVD collection but in the tail end of the 2017/18 season and at the World Cup he proved his talents. Therefore it’s outrageous that some fans are even suggesting that they don’t care about the update on him and it’s even more bizarre that some are even open to selling him or getting rid of him anytime soon. The enforcer, who earns £90,000-a-week (Source: Total Sportek) is important member of the Reds’ first-team and fans will soon miss him if he continues to be stuck on the sidelines. Hopefully this weird situation involving his fitness is soon sorted out.
