Some Liverpool fans on social media revealed their concern over defender Ragnar Klavan reportedly facing an exit from the club before the month of August ends.

The Liverpool Echo reported that the 6ft 1in tall centre-back (Source: Transfermarkt) could leave Anfield in order to get regular playing time as the club were listening to offers for him.

The newspaper stated that while Jurgen Klopp is open to the idea of letting Klavan go, if a decent offer doesn’t emerge for him then he will continue to be a valued member of the Reds’ squad for the 2018/19 season.

One Reds supporter upon reading the report tweeted that there would be civil unrest in the streets if the enforcer left while another revealed they thought it would be a crazy decision if their club let him go.

OPINION

Several Liverpool fans clearly appreciate having an experienced back-up option when it comes to centre-back and really don’t want Klavan to leave the club before the end of the month. One Reds fan even tweets that the club are short on centre-backs so it’s easy to understand why they are miffed over the thought of the club reducing is options for the heart of their defence when they can’t bring in a replacement until January. It would be a bold move by the German manager to let Klavan go as while he has several defenders capable of playing centre-back a lot of them are youngsters who lack experience. For example Joe Gomez, 21, does have a respectable amount of experience playing first-team football for the Reds but after featuring more as a right-back last season then he hasn’t exactly master the role of central defender. Gomez may have excelled against West Ham on Sunday but he wasn’t really tested. Therefore it would be nice if Klavan wasn’t facing an exit from the club as it would be nice to have an experienced player that has previously proven he can cover when the club’s first-choice options aren’t available.
