Liverpool outcast Daniel Sturridge has started pre-season in stunning fashion and should be poised to return to the first-team for their Premier League opener against West Ham.

The England international scored six goals in just 368 minutes of pre-season action, according to Squawka Football, averaging a goal every 61 minutes.

The striker, who spent the second half of last season on loan at West Brom, has been hampered with injuries and had been unable to gain regular game time under manager Jurgen Klopp.

Sturridge has committed his future to the Reds, according to the Daily Mirror, and is determined to prove his worth to the squad after only five league starts for Liverpool last season.

Liverpool supporters know that Sturridge, once fully fit, can cause havoc to any Premier League defence after forming a deadly partnership with Luis Suarez in the 2013/14 season with the English forward netting 21 goals in just 29 matches as the Reds narrowly missed out on the Premier League title.

This season, Sturridge must battle for a spot amongst a formidable trio in Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane, who tore European defences to shreds last season as they guided Liverpool to the Champions League final.

However, Sturridge remains a strong attacking asset for Liverpool and, given his chance, will be desperate to cause a positive problem for Klopp in selecting his striker for the starting line-up.

His form before the Premier League campaign will have excited the fans and he can play a crucial role for the club this season if he remains away from the sidelines without any injury concerns.
