Liverpool legend John Aldridge has said that he is worried about attacker Mohamed Salah’s slow start to the season.

The 5’7″ Egyptian [Source: Transfermarkt] claimed the Premier League Player of the Season last time out but has struggled to replicate that form this campaign, scoring just twice in five games so far, and as such the 26-year-old Anfield favourite has Aldridge ringing the alarm bells.

“I am a bit concerned about Mo Salah’s form,” he wrote in the Liverpool Echo. “It was always going to be hard for him to try to follow up what he achieved last season.

“He’s just not himself at the moment. It can’t be an issue with confidence. Whatever it is, the pleasing thing is that we’re still winning games.”

OPINION

Aldridge is right, Salah hasn’t been at his best so far this season. The Egypt international was simply spectacular last campaign, so like Aldridge says it was always going to be difficult for him to replicate that exact level of form in his second year at Anfield. Defences are forewarned now, too, so it’s not going to be as easy for him to do what he did last year. He has also been overshadowed by some terrific performances from his Liverpool team mates this season, such as Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, James Milner and Sadio Mane. There’s no cause to be overly worried, though. Salah will come good, he’s too good a player not to. Tuesday’s game against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League at Anfield would be a good time for him to get back to his best, that’s for sure. If he can do that then Liverpool will have a great chance at victory.
