Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher has surprisingly stated that Liverpool have not proved anything yet, despite their 100 per cent start to the new Premier League season.

Jurgen Klopp has guided his players to six wins out of six so far, with the latest being their 3-0 thumping of Southampton on Saturday – but Carragher believes that they have not proven anything in the league just yet.

However, he has pinpointed the Reds as the team who will cause current title champions Manchester City the most problems this season, and as the team who can get “under their skin,” while predicting that the head-to-head records could decide the title chase.

“I think head-to-head between the top six will decide a lot. Liverpool haven’t proven anything yet but they’re the one team in the league who seem to have given Man City a problem and can get under their skin,” he told the Sky Sports website.

OPINION

This verdict from Carragher is very surprising considering how Liverpool have started the season. That is why it is hard to agree with him when he says that they have not proved anything yet – they have. If anything, their unbeaten start is a signal of intent, and it proves that they are capable of going toe-to-toe with City to contend for the title. They have also proved that they can match City in terms of the quality of their players – at the moment, it is rather difficult to choose between the two clubs on this front. However, he is right in saying that they are the one team who can cause Manchester City problems and get “under their skin.” The Reds defeated them several times last season, so City will be out to prove a point against them – but they will find it difficult, especially away at Anfield.
