Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman has predicted that Liverpool will overcome Chelsea in their Carabao Cup third-round clash on Wednesday.

The Reds welcome Chelsea to Anfield in the first part of a double-header between the two sides, with Jurgen Klopp’s men travelling to Stamford Bridge for a Premier League clash on Saturday.

Liverpool are now the only team in the division to have a 100% record after the Blues dropped points to West Ham at the weekend, and Goodman has predicted a 2-1 win for the Reds on Wednesday.

In his predictions on the Sky Sports website, Goodman said: “This is juicy isn’t it, especially because they are playing each other in the Premier League at the weekend as well. Whoever loses this game will say the cup wasn’t the priority and has no relevance to Saturday, and whoever wins will definitely use it going into that game.

“Neither side will want to lose but I just think the depth of Liverpool this season will be what sees them through to victory at Anfield.”

OPINION

It will certainly be interesting to see what happens when these two teams meet at Anfield on Wednesday, with the match serving as a taster ahead of that all-important Premier League clash at the weekend. It is widely expected that both managers will ring in the changes for this one, with Klopp likely to make more switches than Sarri as he focuses on the league and Europe. That will mean that the result on Wednesday will likely have no bearing on their league clash a few days later, although keeping momentum going could be key for the Reds. They are now the only Premier League side left who have won every game, and the longer that streak continues in all competitions the better. There will likely be chances to impress for players like Fabinho, who is set for his full debut, and Daniel Sturridge, who can press his claim for a regular starting spot once again after an impressive Champions League outing against PSG last week. Players like Ross Barkley are likely to feature for Chelsea as Sarri rotates his squad as well.
