A section of Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to rave about defender Joel Matip for his display in the 3-0 win against Southampton on Saturday.
The Reds stormed out of the blocks in the first half, and went 2-0 up within 25 minutes thanks to an own goal from the Saints’ Wesley Hoedt and a header from Joel Matip.
Mo Salah struck just before the half time whistle to put Liverpool 3-0 up against Southampton, in what was their sixth win of the Premier League season.
Some comments included “shuts up Twitter” and “where are the Matip haters now”.

Love how Matip carries the ball out from the back. Something I’d like to see more of in our games.

OPINION
It is hard not to agree with the Liverpool fans here in their praise of Joel Matip. He certainly proved his doubters wrong after his performance, especially after his excellent header following a great cross from Trent Alexander-Arnold. Many fans would have come out to criticise the 27-year-old when they found out he had replaced Joe Gomez in the starting line up – but he has definitely silenced them. He will now be in contention for a regular place in the first team, but that only demonstrates how much depth the Liverpool team have. As one fan points out, it is good to see Matip work the ball out from the back – and this is an asset that Klopp will certainly want to have in his team more often. As one supporter pointed out, Matip has silenced Twitter – and he will continue to do so with he performs like he did at the weekend.
