Chris Sutton believes that Liverpool ace James Milner is the best English player in the Premier League at the moment.
Michael Owen responded with Harry Kane, but Sutton quickly made a case for the enforcer – disagreeing with his fellow pundits by saying that on current form, he is clearly above the Tottenham star in this category.
Dean Saunders admitted that he is a big fan of the Reds mainstay, but he revealed that he would choose Kane over Milner if the two players were sat opposite him.
“James Milner… James Milner. Here and now, I would choose James Milner. Right now, yes,” Sutton said on BT Sport’s ‘Saturday Morning Savage’.
Saunders weighed in: “I’m a big fan of James Milner, he’s a great lad. If the two players were sat there, and you were allowed to pick one of them, you would pick Harry Kane.”

OPINION
It is hard not to agree with Sutton here – Milner has been consistent throughout all of the games he has started for Liverpool this season, and he is clearly in better form than Harry Kane is at the moment. He is arguably one of the most underrated players in the league, just because he does not score bags of goals like Kane usually does. Based on his current form, he is most definitely the best English player in the Premier League – and deservedly so. His work rate is immense and he solid in the Liverpool midfield, so it is no wonder that Jurgen Klopp has been starting him on a regular basis. Milner is a player that can always be relied upon and this is perhaps the quality that has attracted Klopp and made him start the player on the regular. Overall, Kane may be the best player – but at the moment, he is not at the standard that he should be.
