A number of Liverpool supporters have been reacting on social media on Tuesday to the news that Liverpool missed out on a move for teenage superstar Kylian Mbappe in 2017.

French newspaper L’Equipe claims that the Reds were extremely interested in signing the World Cup winner, but were unable to finance a deal.

Mbappe eventually joined Paris Saint-Germain for £166million, and Liverpool supporters have reacted to the update with a mixture of disappointment and good humour.

OPINION

The reaction from Liverpool fans to this news is a real mixed bag. Some think it can’t be true, others believe it and are sad at missing out on him, then there are those reacting with pure mirth. What’s not in dispute is what a magical signing Mbappe would have been for Liverpool. To slot the Frenchman in among the likes of Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino would be borderline criminal, such would be the anguish amongst opposition defenders. Still, it didn’t happen and the World Cup winner is now plying his trade for PSG. Instead of playing alongside him, the Liverpool players will have to figure out how to stop him when the Reds host the French titleholders in the Champions League on Tuesday night. That will be a monumental task for Jurgen Klopp’s side, but the Liverpool supporters will be backing their boys all the way at Anfield.
