Usually when a club’s player gets targeted by the likes of Barcelona, that club will usually do all in their power to prevent the move to Spain.
In Liverpool’s case, left-back Alberto Moreno is the subject of a surprise move from the five-time Champions League winners , according to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo.
However, the Reds are not likely to pull out all of the stops in order to retain the rarely-seen defender, as he has recently been ousted by Andrew Robertson.
This is why Liverpool must do all they can to push the 26-year-old towards the Anfield exit door instead.
With his first team chances appearing incredibly limited under boss Jurgen Klopp, there is no reason for them to keep the Spaniard on their books.
Yes, an injury sidelined him and allowed Robertson to take his place in the starting 11, but he must accept that his first team prospects are not likely to be realised any time soon.
With his contract expiring next summer, January could not be a better time for Klopp to offload Moreno, as it means the club will be able to cash in on him rather than letting him leave for free this time next year.
Whether Moreno would be keen on departing the club remains to be seen, but if not, then Klopp needs to convince him that a move to Barcelona would benefit everybody involved.
He will soon get sick of his lack of playing time, and this may eventually sway him that a move away will only improve his playing career.
This season is an extremely important one for Liverpool – they are arguably considered one of the favourites for the Premier League title, and Moreno is not at the standard required to achieve that dream.
Come January, Liverpool must do all they can to push the 5ft 6in [Transfermarkt] man towards the exit.
