Some Liverpool supporters opted to hijack the club’s official tweet celebrating the anniversary of Divock Origi’s debut for the club by sharing their disappointment over him.

The Reds’ official Twitter posted on Wednesday morning that on this day in 2015 (September 12) the 23-year-old attacker made his debut for the club.

Several Reds supporters saw this as an opportunity to question what had happened to the player since his promising first outing for the club with one stating they now feared he’d never live up to their expectations.

Live 4 Liverpool has rounded up some of the best tweets about Origi:

It’s interesting that a couple of Reds fans in particular, highlighted the fact they miss the old him as they imply they valued him despite his less than stellar goal record. Origi, who earns £28,000-a-week (Source: Spotrac) has made a total of 77 appearances, scoring just 21 goals, since joining the club from Lille in 2014. The promising attacker was instantly loaned back to Lille for a season upon joining, which should have aided his development, but when he did rock up, he struggled to live up to the expectations set for him. Origi is now so far out of Jurgen Klopp’s plans is more of a surprise that he is still at the club as he looks unlikely to rack up anymore appearances for the Reds anytime soon. After one fan questioned that they didn’t know what happened to him as he looked on fire when first joined, it is easy to understand why there’s a bit of mystery surrounding him. However young players blow hot and cold with their form all the time, it’s just a shame that Origi has not been able to reignite his form in order for the Reds to justify having him on their books.
