Some Liverpool fans destroyed midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum after he featured during his side’s 3-2 win over Paris St Germain on Tuesday.

The Reds cruised to a relatively comfortable victory, for the most part, over the French giants in the Champions League but a section of supporters were still disappointed with the 27-year-old central midfielder.

One Reds fan tweeted that Wijnaldum when partnered with Jordan Henderson was toxic, while another claimed that the Dutch international had been abysmal when in possession.

OPINION

Wijnaldum, who earns £90,000-a-week at Anfield (Source: Spotrac), didn’t really have a bad game against PSG so it’s mystery why this section of Reds fans have torn into him. The 27-year-old has been fantastic in all of his outings so far this season and while he didn’t hit the same heights in his latest display, it didn’t mean he let everyone down. It’s hard to see why one Reds fan thought the midfielder was terrible with the ball at his feet against PSG as he hardly lost the ball and wasn’t sloppy when it came to make the right decision about what to do with the ball. Perhaps these Reds supporters were just expecting more from Wjnaldum due to his superb display recently and set their standards too high for him as it feels really harsh that anyone felt the need to criticise him so harshly. Hopefully the Dutch international gets fans back on his side shortly as he deserves their admiration, not to be made a villain.
