Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino has waxed lyrical over teammate Mo Salah, labelling him as “fantastic” to play alongside.

The duo make up two of Liverpool’s attacking front three, which also includes Sadio Mane – and Firmino had nothing but praise for Salah, who has been under-fire recently for his lack of goals.

He added that Salah and himself discuss a number of issues every day, and also remarked how content he is to play alongside the Egypt intentional – and how appreciated he is by the rest of the team.

“Mohamed Salah is a great player. He is a fantastic partner, we discuss a lot of matters ever single day and I am very happy to play next to him,” Firmino said, as quoted by Anfield HQ journalist Oliver Bond on Twitter.

“Salah is appreciated by the whole team and his excellent work is still going on for us. He is a sensitive lad as well. I believe Salah deserves all what has happened for him in his life and what he has so far achieved.”

OPINION

It is not surprising in the slightest that Firmino has heaped praise on Salah in the way that he has. Even though Salah has not been at his best recently, he deserves all of the plaudits that come his way. All he needs is a boost in confidence and for someone to tell him that he is still talented – so this praise may go a long way in improving Salah’s self-belief. Granted, he needs to start scoring the goals again, but this does not happen over night – after all, he cannot be expected to replicate what he achieved last year. Firmino and Salah still provide an undeniable threat going forward, and this is not going to stop anytime soon. Like the Brazil international pointed out, Salah still provides “excellent work” – and the more he does this, the more likely he is going to find his form again.
