Liverpool’s clash with Manchester City may not have lived up to the expectations of the majority of football fans, but there is one player is worthy of a special mention.

That man is midfielder Jordan Henderson, who redeemed himself against the current Premier League champions with an effortless display.

The Reds mainstay has recently been slammed for his lacklustre performances, one of them coming in their Champions League fixture with Napoli on Wednesday – but he has brushed aside those doubters and proved exactly why he has been a regular in the first team for so long.

Yes, Henderson is not the same player that he was last season, but that does not give fans a reason to write him off this term after all that he has done for them.

Before the likes of Naby Keita came along, he was the anchor in the centre of midfield for Jurgen Klopp, and based on this showing, he may be taking that role up again.

His competition for a first team place has been slightly decreased after Keita’s gutless outing, so there should be no concerns there.

The midfielder looked a shadow of the player who was blasted for his lazy passing in Naples – and even though Liverpool never really got going, he was definitely the shining light.

If he continues to show Klopp that he is worthy of a regular place in the starting line-up, then there is no doubt that he will be one of Liverpool’s heroes once again this season.

He has gone back to the Henderson that we all know and love, and fans will be praying that he is able to maintain what he showed against Manchester City.

Henderson’s resurgence to form could not have come at a better time, and it bodes well for his chances with England heading into their next matches in the UEFA Nations League.

The 28-year-old has surely won back the hearts of Liverpool fans after his showing – and he will only go to establish himself as a fan favourite once again.
