Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita will undergo scans on Wednesday after suffering a suspected hamstring injury on Tuesday, according to the Liverpool Echo’s Ian Doyle.

Doyle’s report claims that the 5ft 7in Guinean [Source: Transfermarkt] will undergo checks on Merseyside, with the club said to be fearing Keita could face an extended spell on the sidelines.

Guinean journalist Amadou Makadji confirmed on his personal Twitter account on Tuesday that the midfielder was substituted off with an injury during the first half of his country’s game against Rwanda.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp will be cursing the international break, with Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Virgil van Dijk all also suffering knocks.

OPINION

This is terrible news for both Liverpool and Keita. The team really could have done without another injury setback but the international break has been incredibly cruel to the Reds on this occasion. Keita, too, will be massively upset by this setback. He’s trying to find his feet on Merseyside after an inconsistent start to life at the club and now he may be facing an extended amount of time on the sidelines. It’s so disappointing for a player with bags of talent. For Klopp to have to deal with injury concerns for four of his most important players following the international break is scarcely believable, and the German will have to shuffle his pack in regards to team selection in the coming weeks. It sounds as if Keita’s is the most serious of the setbacks, but Liverpool supporters will be hoping the scans show his injury isn’t as bad as feared.
