Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita will be out for two weeks following the injury he sustained on international duty on Tuesday, according to Guinean journalist Sega Diallo.

Diallo revealed the news on his personal Twitter account, stating that the 5ft 7in Guinea international [Source: Transfermarkt] will miss only a fortnight of action.

Keita limped off for Guinea against Rwanda on Tuesday, with one of his team mates taking him off the pitch on his back as a stretcher wasn’t available.

The Mirror reported recently that Liverpool were fearing the worst regarding Keita’s setback, but the injury has not proven to be as bad as feared.

OPINION

This is good news for Liverpool if if turns out to be true. Obviously the club would have preferred for Keita to not get injured in the first place, but two weeks is not a bad timeline for his return in the circumstances. The 23-year-old has endured an up and down start to life on Merseyside so to be out for any period of time is a big blow to the former RB Leipzig man, but he must be relieved that he’s not going to miss more than a fortnight. Considering the fears in Liverpool regarding the severity of the injury, everyone involved with the club will be pleased with the outcome. Keita’s absence gives the opportunity to other players, most notably Fabinho and Xherdan Shaqiri, to make an impression on manager Jurgen Klopp as they attempt to jump-start their own Anfield careers. However, in two weeks time Keita should be back to full fitness and ready to show everyone why the club invested so heavily in him this summer.
