Liverpool are eyeing up a January swoop for Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey after his contract talks with Arsenal broke down last month, according to the Evening Standard

The newspaper report that Liverpool and Manchester United are both lining up cut-price moves for the Wales international, with the Reds looking the most likely candidates to do so at the moment.

The Standard claim that Jurgen Klopp is a big fan of the 27-year-old midfield maestro and is keen to add reinforcements to his midfield, with the club missing out on a move for Lyon star Nabil Fekir in the summer.

It is said that Ramsey would be available for less than £25million as he will have just six months left on his deal by January, with the Wales international keen to remain in England despite heavy interest from abroad.

OPINION

This would be a seriously interesting move from Liverpool if it were to happen, with Ramsey being one of Arsenal’s top performers in the last couple of seasons. The Wales international has put his injury problems behind him to become one of the Gunners’ most consistent and productive performers across all competitions. It was a huge surprise when it emerged that contract talks had broken down, and many seemed to believe that the 27-year-old would end up signing a new deal eventually. However, events since the news broke seem to have confirmed that he will in fact be leaving the Emirates Stadium either in January or the summer, and Liverpool would do well to get in there early. There will be plenty of competition for his signature, but the Reds will certainly be in with a good shout considering his desire to remain in the Premier League. One issue would be the fact that Ramsey would likely just be a squad player at Anfield, and he may look to head somewhere he is guaranteed to be a star.
