Image for Pearce: Henderson is better than Eric Dier

Sky Sports pundit Stuart Pearce has admitted that he prefers Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson over his Tottenham rival Eric Dier.

Pearce reckons that the Reds mainstay is far superior to one of Spurs’ key assets, saying that he proved himself this summer for England at the World Cup as one of their main men in the midfield.

He says that Henderson offers a lot more than the £60,000-a-week [Spotrac] Tottenham star can at the moment, including leadership skills, which is demonstrated in the fact that he is Liverpool’s current captain.

“From a choice between Henderson or Dier, after the World Cup everyone knows who by far is the best one. Henderson offers leadership as well, as captain of Liverpool,” he told Sky Sports’ ‘The Debate‘.

OPINION

This is a sly dig made by Pearce at the Tottenham midfielder. Both players have been impressive for their clubs, but Pearce is right – Henderson is far superior to Dier at the moment. He proved that at the World Cup, establishing himself as England’s key anchor in the midfield for the duration of the tournament. When Dier was started or brought on, he did not make much of an impact, whereas Henderson could be trusted to to control most of the proceedings in the middle of the park. Like Pearce pointed out, Henderson is superior in the fact that he has more leadership skills than Dier – something which he has demonstrated for Liverpool. Even though he has not been a regular feature in the first team this season due to the form of James Milner and the signing of Naby Keita, Henderson will always be pivotal to Liverpool.
