Liverpool duo Virgil Van Dijk and Mo Salah are both set to be fit for Saturday’s clash against Huddersfield Town, according to the Times.

The newspaper reports on their website that both players have returned to training ahead of the fixture with the Terriers, and can be selected by Jurgen Klopp to feature – if there are not any last-minute setbacks.

However, the report also states that Reds trio of James Milner, Sadio Mane and Naby Keita have doubts cast over them, especially Keita, who suffered a hamstring injury when playing for Guinea on Tuesday.

Salah sustained a groin injury in Egypt’s clash with Eswatini last Friday, while Van Dijk was absent for Holland in order to prevent any further damage to a rib injury.

OPINION

The fact that both Salah and Van Dijk have been passed as fit to face Huddersfield on Saturday will no doubt be a major boost for Jurgen Klopp. Although the Terriers will not pose the toughest threat, the news that both players can feature is very welcome news indeed. The international break has been brutal on Liverpool’s players, but they are very lucky that these two have been passed fit despite their setbacks. Nevertheless, Salah will be wanting to get off the mark against Huddersfield after a particularly underwhelming start to the season – and he has a greater chance than ever to do it against a side who have not been the best this term. Liverpool would have been a lot weaker in defence if Van Dijk was absent, so Klopp will be counting his lucky stars that the break has not be so tough on one of his key men.
