Alan Shearer claimed that Jurgen Klopp had to deliver a trophy at Liverpool this season after the amount of money the club had spent.
The BBC pundit was asked whether it was time the German manager got his hands on some silverware at the club and whether there was pressure on the German to deliver the goods.
Shearer shared that he thought Klopp was under no more pressure than any other boss in charge of a big football club but that in his opinion the Reds need to add a trophy to their cabinet in the 18/19 season.
“Well no more pressure than anyone else who is managing any big football club but you’re absolutely right, Liverpool have spent a fortunes to getting where they are now,” said Shearer on CNN.
“They’ve now got to get under that final hurdle and Jurgen and Liverpool have to deliver a trophy this season.”

Shearer is his usually well spoken and well informed self when issuing his verdict on Liverpool this season. The BBC pundit clearly believes that due to the level of investment into the club’s playing squad that Klopp simply has to lift a trophy to reflect this. It’s interesting that Shearer didn’t specify a particularly trophy the Reds have to win, just that they need to get over the final hurdle and bring some much anticipated silverware to Anfield. The Reds are out of the EFL Cup, following their lost to Chelsea, but are still in contention for The FA Cup, Champions League and the Premier League title. You would think that the league championship takes priority but given the size and quality of the Reds’ squad then they should be able to compete for multiple honours at the same time. A neutral may find interesting to see what happens if Klopp doesn’t deliver trophies at the end of the current campaign as he is a popular figure due to the style of play he encourages, regardless if it leads to success in the form of silverware.
