Liverpool attacker Daniel Sturridge is ready to sign a new contract at the club after impressing Jurgen Klopp this season, according to the Sun.

The England international, on a reported £120,000-per-week contract at Anfield [Source: Spotrac], won’t ask for a January move away from the club as he did last year when he joined West Bromwich Albion on loan.

Fresh terms will be negotiated in regards to the player’s appearances following several injury-hit campaigns on Merseyside in recent years.

The 29-year-old has yet to start a Premier League game for Klopp’s team this term but has managed to hit four goals in nine appearances in all competitions.

OPINION

This is terrific news for Liverpool fans. Sturridge has shown that he’s willing to humble himself by accepting a bit-part role this season and it’s something that has brought out the best in him. The Englishman is the perfect back-up to the Reds’ vaunted front three of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane. If any of that trio are injured or experience a slump in form, Sturridge is there ready to step in and perform to a high level. It’s important that Klopp maintains the strength in depth that he currently has in the squad, otherwise the team risks going backwards. Sturridge is a big part of that because he is one of the most talented substitutes in the Premier League. Tying him down for the next few years ensures Liverpool continue to move forward with a high-quality replacement ready to go should anything happen to the team’s phenomenal front three.
