Many of Liverpool’s summer signings may have thought that they were safe from the axe after an impressive start to life on Merseyside.

However, that should not be the case, especially in terms of midfielder Naby Keita.

Keita was hopeless against Manchester City on Sunday and it remains to be seen where the player that blew everyone away on his debut against West Ham has gone.

In his place, a player that does not seem to be bothered has come in, and that should be a rather worrying prospect for Jurgen Klopp.

Nevertheless, his gutless display has gone to prove that not even Liverpool’s top players can dodge the axe completely – and by the looks of things, Keita is most definitely not free of being culled from the team.

He has demonstrated that players of his quality are not safe from the drop, and he must not be exempt for the axe in their next clash with Cardiff City.

Yes, it is a game that the Reds are rightly expected to win – but Klopp cannot afford to risk a player whose form has dipped considerably since he reached his peak upon his arrival.

It is a shame when players like Keita cannot find their feet – but Klopp now has a serious headache as to what his midfield line up will now look like.

James Milner suffered an injury in the clash with City – so he may have to resort to Xherdan Shaqiri to take the place of the midfield magician in the mean time.

Keita needs to up his game, and fast – because it will not be long before he is permanently replaced in an incredibly talented Liverpool team.

The 5ft 8in [Transfermarkt] ace now risks a place on the chopping block, as his complacent showings have demonstrated that he has been rather underwhelming.
