A number of Liverpool supporters have been reacting angrily to midfielder Adam Lallana’s performance in the team’s 1-0 win over Huddersfield Town on Saturday.
The England international, on a reported £65,000-per-week at Anfield [Source: Spotrac], looked somewhat off the pace as he struggled to shake off the injury rust against the Terriers – although Mohamed Salah’s first half strike meant his display was of little consequence in the end.
His lacklustre effort had many Reds fans calling for him to be replaced at half time, but Georginio Wijnaldum replaced Jordan Henderson instead at the break.

Lallana looked like a member of the crowd who won a golden ticket to play for his boyhood club.
Nice touches but headless chicken & more of a hindrance than a help. #LFC

Poor first half. Milner can’t get into the game again, Sturridge poor, Lallana looks like he won a raffle to be playing. On plus side Mo’s back, VVD is his imperious best and Gomez and Shaqiri are playing well. Improve in the second half and get the GD up again this lot #UppaReds

Would look to replace Lallana this half soon

Lallana does a few nice turns but besides that he's been useless. In fact we'd be 2 goals up if it wasn't for him.

OPINION
It was inevitable that Lallana was going to show some ring rust after being out for so long, so to see this sort of negativity from the Liverpool supporters is surprising. The 30-year-old has never been a rapid player who fits in perfectly alongside Mohamed Salah and co., he’s something different and that’s why he’s at the club. He provides manager Jurgen Klopp with an alternative option and a completely unique player. Not everything he tries is going to come off but you would’ve expected to see a bit more patience from Reds fans regarding a man who is making his first start back from injury. The former Southampton man will get back to his best, he’s too good a player not to, it’s simply a matter of time. It’s better that he get this sort of game out of his system now rather than in a crunch Champions League contest with Paris Saint-Germain. Starting the midfielder was a big call from Klopp and perhaps it didn’t exactly work out, but the player needs time to get back to his best, not abuse.
