A number of Liverpool supporters have been been blown away by Virgil van Dijk for his performance in the team’s 1-0 win over Huddersfield Town on Saturday.
The Reds came out on top of a scrappy affair as Mohamed Salah’s first half strike secured all three points for the visitors at the John Smith’s Stadium.
However it was centre back Van Dijk who drew much of the acclaim from the Reds faithful, with the Dutchman in imperious form once again against David Wagner’s side.

Another game, another assured performance from Van Dijk. The Dutchman has made an impact that is almost impossible to quantify since joining Liverpool from Southampton in January, and that continued again on Saturday against a spirited Huddersfield side. The Terriers didn’t make things easy for Jurgen Klopp’s side, but in the end the Reds were able to grind out victory over Wagner’s men. You get the sense that this is the sort of game that Liverpool would have dropped points in in past seasons, but thanks to the presence of Van Dijk and co. at the back they were victorious in West Yorkshire. This wasn’t a victory built on the team’s blistering attack; it was predicated on the solidity provided by the team’s burgeoning defence. Van Dijk is the undisputed leader of the Liverpool backline and he showed that again with an imperious display on Saturday. He is, without a doubt, one of the finest defenders in world football today.
