A number of Liverpool supporters were blown away by midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum’s performance in the team’s victory over Red Star Belgrade on Wednesday.
The Reds ran out 4-0 winners in the Champions League contest at Anfield, with Wijnaldum forming a terrific midfield trio with Fabinho and Xherdan Shaqiri.
The Liverpool faithful clearly appreciated his display, with many of them commenting on the fact that the Dutch international, on a reported £90,000-per-week at the club [Source: Spotrac], has gone overlooked for far too long.

I've said it a few times already this season on @TheRedDebate podcast, but Gini Wijnaldum has become one hell of a player. What an unbelievable start to the season – arguably the best CM in the league right now. @GWijnaldum #LFC #GiniWijnaldum

I’m sorry but the most underrated player in world football right now is Gini Wijnaldum, I thought with our additions he was a goner and now, in my eyes, he’s the first midfielder on the team sheet.
He’s been outstanding all season. Talk about stepping up! #LFC #YNWA

Gini was the perfect partner for Fabinho tonight because when Fabinho did miss a tackle or was beaten (he made A LOT of tackles)…
Gini was there to cover.
Wijnaldum is the glue in our midfield & has been all season!

OPINION
Having witnessed Wijnaldum’s phenomenal start to the season you can certainly understand why the Liverpool supporters have been so effusive in their praise of him. His faultless display against Red Star was merely the latest in what has been a long line of assured performances at the start of this campaign. He has arguably been the Premier League’s finest midfielder through nine games and he continued that form on Wednesday night. The former Newcastle man has really picked his game up following the signings of Naby Keita and Fabinho this summer, producing his finest run of games yet in a red shirt. Those arrivals obviously prompted the 27-year-old to raise his game and he’s gone from strength to strength this term. He is without doubt one of the first names on Jurgen Klopp’s team sheet and certainly will be for as long as this run of form continues.
