Some Liverpool fans on social media heavily criticised midfielder Adam Lallana for his performance during the 4-0 win over Red Star Belgrade on Wednesday.

The 30-year-old attacking midfielder replaced Xherdan Shaqiri in the 68th minute of the match and apparently had enough time to anger section of Reds supporters with his display.

One Reds fan tweeted that Lallana looked expired, which prompted several to agree with them, while another claimed that the player simply needed to go.

The midfielder had only made three appearances ahead of of his outing against Red Star, due to an injury keeping him on the sidelines.

OPINION

Wow. This is a very harsh section of fans as Lallana looked good during his cameo appearance. While it’s true the attacking midfielder should have grabbed himself a goal after being given a chance on a plate, there’s no need for him to start packing his bags just yet. Lallana has struggled with injuries in recent times and clearly needs to build up his fitness by getting regular minutes to get anyway near being back to his best. It can be argued that the midfielder is in the last chance saloon, as he really needs to stay fit to prove his worth, but to destroy him on social media for an acceptable display is ludicrous. Hopefully this Reds fans panning Lallana will soon be begging for his forgiveness because if he manages to stay fit then, he’ll likely return to being a player who can aid Klopp’s hunt for trophies. These fans’ anger will only be well placed if the 30-year-old causes more frustration by getting injured, though he can’t control that.
