Some Liverpool fans on social media heaped praise on attacker Daniel Sturridge for his display during his side’s 4-0 win over Red Star Belgrade on Wednesday night.

The 5ft 10in tall forward (Source: Transfermarkt) entered the game in the 73rd minute as Jurgen Klopp brought him on to replace Mohamed Salah, and a section of supporters were thrilled by his cameo display.

One Reds fan tweeted that Sturridge simply had to start games with perhaps Salah dropping to the bench, while another claimed his passes were like that of world-class Barcelona playmaker Lionel Messi.

OPINION

Sturridge looked determined, like a man possessed once he entered the field of play. The 29-year-old clearly wanted to get a goal and make a statementĀ against Red Star and this caused him to standout for all the right reasons. Sturridge may not have got a goal but his passing and link-up play was a joy to watch. One fan may have gone a little too far by comparing him to Messi, but you can see why Sturridge’s passes had them acting quickly to praise him. All though one fan is urging Klopp to start the experienced forward in more games, it would be hard for the German manager to break up the Reds’ usualĀ front three especially as the trio all goal against Red Star. Also given that Sturridge looks like he is able to keep fit and defy his injury by being used from the bench, then why change it and possibly jinx him?
