A section of fans on Twitter destroyed Liverpool winger Harry Wilson for his latest performance while on loan at Derby County.

The 21-year-old Reds starlet is currently on loan with Frank Lampard’s side and several supporters of Derby and some other clubs were not impressed despite him helping his side defeat Sheffield United 2-1 on Saturday.

One fan tweeted that to blame Wilson being moved to play in the central midfielder, while another boldly claimed he was a fraud who was overly praised due to his set-piece ability.

OPINION

Wilson grabbed the headlines during the international break after another beautiful free-kick for Wales, one which was worthy of any highlight reel, but it seems his form didn’t continue upon returning to Derby. The 21-year-old has featured 10 times across all competitions for Lampard’s team this season and hasn’t blown supporters away with his display. While his free-kick against Manchester United has fans gushing at Derby, given his ability he should be doing better. One fan tweeted that Wilson was a fraud and hiding behind his free-kick fame in order to get away with poor performances, while that is a harsh assessment, it’s not totally without a point. The 21-year-old’s ability to score from free-kicks has slightly hidden the fact his loan spell Derby isn’t all going to plan. However it’s worth noting his struggles against the Blades were more due to him being played out of position than anything else. Hopefully Wilson ups his performance in the coming weeks or at least learns from his struggles in order to improve as a player.
