Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold has gushed over teammate James Milner, hailing him as holding “the highest standards” he has ever seen from a player.

He adds that he has not played with a professional who is as consistent as the £120,000-a-week [Spotrac] first teamer, saying that he is so reliable and versatile – everything that a player should be.

The 20-year-old also praised the ex-England international for giving the new lease of energy that the team needs when a game is not going their way, and for putting in the tackle that “lifts everyone” and gets them motivated in such matches.

“I’d say James Milner is the most consistent player I’ve ever played or trained with – I’ve never seen him have a bad session or a bad game,” he told Liverpool’s official website.

“He’s so reliable and so versatile as well and that’s everything you want in a player. He’ll put his body on the line for the team and he’s non-stop. When times are hard, he’ll put in a tackle that lifts everyone and gets everyone up for the game. He brings the energy that the team needs.

“Off the pitch he holds the highest standards that I’ve probably ever seen in someone.”

OPINION

It is not surprising that Alexander-Arnold cannot get enough of Milner here, as he is most definitely one of the most model professionals. His talent often goes underrrated a lot of the time, and sometimes the overall influence that he has on games is not recognised enough. However, that is not the case here, as he has been labelled as the player who is capable of getting the best out of everyone. Yes, he admittedly has an off-day here and there, just like everyone – but that is not very often if Alexander-Arnold’s praise is anything to go by. Without him, Liverpool’s midfield would not be as steady as it is at the moment, and he will no doubt be a huge loss when he eventually hangs up his boots. The Reds are incredibly lucky to have a player like Milner on the books, for both his talent and his professionalism.
