A price tag of at least £88.7million will be required for Liverpool to snare transfer target Ousmane Dembele from Barcelona, according to Sport.

The Spanish outlet claims that Ernesto Valverde’s side are unimpressed by Dembele’s unprofessionalism, but that they will still demand a monster fee for the youngster who is understood to be admired by Jurgen Klopp.

The Express reported last week that the Reds were interested in making a big money move for the former Borussia Dortmund man.

And it will take the club breaking their transfer record to bring the World Cup winner to Anfield, a title currently held by their £75million signing of Virgil van Dijk in January.

OPINION

Is this really a move that Liverpool need to make? Dembele’s discipline issues suggest that he might not be the right fit for a club like Liverpool. Besides, he has failed to live up to his spectacular potential since joining  Barcelona so it’s not like he’s a guaranteed world beater. Of course he’s a wonderfully talented player, but if he doesn’t have the right mentality then he will be unable to cut it in the relentless environment of the Premier League. Almost £89million is a huge transfer fee for any player and would be a massive investment from Liverpool. Is it worth risking that amount of money for a player with known question marks surrounding his professionalism? The Reds already have a phenomenal front three so it’s not as if there is a particularly pressing need for another attacker like Dembele. Still, Jurgen Klopp may feel that he can coax the best out of the Frenchman, and that would certainly result in another world class talent plying his trade at Anfield.
