Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has told the club’s fans to relax about their Premier League title chances.

Some Reds supporters have begun to fret after Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Arsenal saw Jurgen Klopp’s team drop two point behind champions Manchester City in the table.

Carragher feels there is no need for panic, however: “It will have been disappointing for Liverpool to concede that goal, but Liverpool supporters have got to just relax a little bit,” he told Sky Sports. “You’d think Liverpool had just lost the league with the reaction after the game, that it was two points dropped, Man City are two points clear – there’s a long way to go.

“Man City are better than Liverpool, everyone knows that, that’s no problem. That doesn’t mean Liverpool can’t win the league. The fact Arsenal are so delighted with a 1-1 draw at home shows the respect everyone has for them. Relax, it’s been a brilliant start, and I think everyone expects it to continue – but it will be tough against Manchester City,” he finished.

OPINION

Carragher is absolutely right, here. A draw at the Emirates Stadium against a resurgent Arsenal team is nothing to worry about. Liverpool could have won the game and on another day would have, so it’s not as if it was two points dropped from the Reds. A draw away at Arsenal is always a point gained and Klopp will surely view it that way as well. Two points at this stage of the season is nothing, and if anything it shows how far the Reds have come in the last year. This time last season City were already beginning their inexorable march towards the title while Liverpool were struggling to find top gear. This time round the Reds are only two points behind the champions and have yet to lose a league game all season. Pep Guardiola’s side undoubtedly remain the favourites for the title, but Liverpool are right there with them and so there is no need for panic on Merseyside.
