Liverpool CEO Peter Moore told reporters he had a train to catch after being questioned over Premier League chairman Richard Scudamore’s £5million payout, according to reliable journalist Rob Harris.

Harris, sports reporter for the Associated Press, claimed on his personal Twitter account on Thursday that Moore failed to answer any questions about the payout, and instead rushed off to catch a train.

Scudamore has accepted the £5million payment, which will take place over a three year period, and will remain in an advisory role following reports on Wednesday that all 20 Premier League clubs had been asked to contribute £250,000 to the fund.

OPINION

The decision by Premier League clubs to back this payment to Scudamore will not go down well at all with the vast majority of fans. Football has for years become more and more out of touch with reality, and situations like this only serve to confirm that. Scudamore has been a brilliant servant to the Premier League, there is no doubting that, and he should be rewarded for his service. However, he has been in the job for 19 years and will have been paid handsomely for his work throughout his tenure. Surely the money now destined for his pocket is better served in aiding grassroots football, or donated to any number of charitable causes close to the game? Reports suggest that there were only a handful of clubs who openly opposed the payment, and Liverpool were quite obviously not among them. That will no doubt disappoint the clubs fanbase, many of whom spend a large chunk of their income on supporting the Premier League.
