Liverpool are in the hunt to sign 18-year-old centre-back Jean-Clair Todibo from Toulouse in January, according to Tuttosport

The Italian outlet report that the teenage sensation is attracting the interest of some of Europe’s top clubs, with Juventus, Borussia Dortmund, Lyon and RB Leipzig also mentioned.

Tuttosport claim that despite his first-team breakthrough this season – Todibo has played ten times in Ligue 1 – the 6ft 2in destroyer [Transfermarkt] is still yet to sign a professional deal with the club and is out of contract in the summer.

That means he would be available on a cut-price deal in January.

OPINION

Todibo is a huge talent and it is no surprise that Liverpool are in the hunt for his signature. The 18-year-old has been mightily impressive for Toulouse since breaking into the first-team, and the Ligue 1 club will be kicking themselves that they have let his contract situation reach this point. They are now facing a situation in which they must let him leave in January if they want any kind of financial compensation, or merely wait until the summer and watch him walk away for free. His exit is not necessarily inevitable, but with so many big clubs on his tail you would think that his head would eventually be turned by the opportunities on offer. That being said, he may also want to remain at Toulouse, where first-team football is guaranteed, rather than move elsewhere, like Liverpool, where he would likely play for the Under-23s first.
