Liverpool are in hot pursuit of Middlesbrough defender Dael Fry according to the Sunday Express.

The newspaper reports on its website that the Reds have watched Boro six times already this season, with the Championship colossus – who stands at 6ft 2in [Transfermarkt] – “fixed in their sights”.

Fry has represented England at under-21 level and still continues to do so, and he has been a pivotal player in the relative success of Middlesbrough this season.

It is understood that Liverpool are now compiling a dossier on the North-East centre-back.

OPINION

Yes, admittedly the youngster is still progressing and developing at this stage in his career, but everybody starts from somewhere – and Liverpool may be that place. The Reds must the Championship club’s arm in order to sign Fry in January, as he really has all the markings to become a great top-flight player. Klopp would seriously regret it if they did not make a move for him, as the manager could really be onto a winner here by securing Liverpool’s long-term future. He would likely be playing for the under-23s if he made the switch, which is a fantastic stepping stone into the first team if the likes of Joe Gomez and Trent Alexander-Arnold are anything to go by. All in all, the Reds would be striking gold if they manage to convince Middlesbrough to part ways with Fry as he is their ideal long-term solution.
