Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson has predicted that Liverpool will maintain their unbeaten start in the Premier League when they visit Watford this Saturday.

The two sides meet at Vicarage Road at the weekend with the Reds making the trip on the back of a 2-0 win over Fulham before the international break, with the Hornets drawing 1-1 with Southampton last time out.

However, despite Liverpool’s excellent start to the season, Merson has predicted that they will share the spoils with the hosts in a 2-2 draw this weekend, as he thinks Javi Garcia’s side can cause them a whole load of problems.

“This is a hard game for Liverpool coming after the international break, while they have a big game at PSG on Wednesday,” he told Sky Sports.

“But let’s be honest, if you are Liverpool, you want to win the Premier League rather than the Champions League. They need to win that, so they must win here, but I just think this will be a hard game for them as Watford pick themselves up majorly for these games.

“I do see them causing Liverpool problems as they are a much better team than people think they are.”

OPINION

To be honest, it was rather hard to see anything over than a Liverpool win here when you see the two teams on paper. However, they are playing away, which will no doubt make life that little bit harder for Jurgen Klopp’s team. Many fans would no doubt be expecting a win from their club as after all, they are contenders for the title – but like Merson said, Watford are a lot better than people give them credit for. They have the ability to spark surprises on the bigger teams, so it would not be a shock to see them pick up a point here. It is highly unlikely that they will get the victory, but one thing is for sure, they will give Liverpool a good run for their money. This should make for a very entertaining game, especially if Merson’s prediction of four goals is anything to go by – but we shall wait and see.
