Stephen Warnock heaped praise on Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum ahead of his side taking on Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League on Wednesday.

The BBC pundit shared that he thought the 28-year-old central midfielder had upped his game by improving himself when it comes to going forward upon analysing the Reds’ starting line-up for the clash with PSG.

“Gini Wijnaldum this season has scored goals, provided goals, so he’s upped his game this season to become more of an attacking threat,” said Warnock on BBC Radio 5 Live (November 18, 19:10).

Wijnaldum is set to start the Reds’ upcoming Champions League clash in midfield alongside James Milner and Jordan Henderson.

OPINION

Warnock seemed to be addressing concerns that Jurgen Klopp’s choice of midfield for the clash with PSG lacked creativity, when praising Wijnaldum’s improvement. While the BBC pundit is quick to say the midfielder has got better when it comes to the attacking side of his game, his numbers still aren’t amazing. Wijnaldum has scored one goal, while registering one assist, in the 17 outings he has made this season. However while Warnock’s comments about the 28-year-old’s attacking qualities can be debated, what can’t be questioned is that the midfielder has upped his game. Wijnaldum has excelled in a lot of his outings this season and looks a much improved player when compared to his 2017/18 campaign. Yet the only issue is that the midfielder hasn’t been on top form in his last couple of fixtures, but that will be quickly forgotten if he is able to put in a show-stealing display against PSG.
