A number of international fans have blasted Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren for his performance for Croatia against England on Sunday.

The 29-year-old endured a miserable afternoon at Wembley which was finished off by Harry Kane’s late winner to make the score 2-1 to the Three Lions.

Lovren himself was culpable for that goal with some dodgy marking, and supporters of the international game weren’t shy about giving him their thoughts.

COMMENTARY

In some ways you feel for Lovren given the amount of vitriol he receives, but on the other hand he brings a lot of it on himself. He was very outspoken after Croatia’s victory over Spain on Thursday and has been pretty vocal about his own abilities in the past. He has enjoyed a terrific calendar year but he just needs to calm down a little bit and give everyone the chance to appreciate his talents. Having said that, Sunday definitely wasn’t his day. He wasn’t exactly woeful but he came up short in two big moments in the game. He didn’t do enough with Joe Gomez’ long throw in for England’s equaliser, and he lost Kane for the second goal as well. The set pieces of Gareth Southgate’s side clearly troubled him and he didn’t look comfortable for either goal. Given his outspoken nature you can understand the reaction of the supporters because he does come off like a big time Charlie at times.
