Some Liverpool fans on social media lapped up Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola’s latest remarks as he brought up Leroy Sane’s disallowed goal.

The Man City boss was asked after his side’s 6-0 demolition of Shakhtar Donetsk whether Raheem Sterling should have told the referee that he tripped during the box and shouldn’t have been awarded a penalty for the incident.

Guardiola cheekily responded that Liverpool midfielder James Milner could have said he touched the ball during Man City’s Champions League clash with the Reds last season, which would have seen Sane’s goal not ruled out for offside during that match.

“Last season Milner could have admitted it was his pass for our offside goal,” said the Man City boss as quoted by Manchester Evening reporter Stuart Brennan on his Twitter account.

These remarks were instantly pounced on by a section of Reds fans, as one claimed that Liverpool were living in Guardiola’s head while another claimed he was rattled.

Reds supporters needed something to cheer them up after watching their side surprisingly lose to Red Star Belgrade 2-0 on Tuesday, and Guardiola delivered. The Man City boss had no real reason to bring up Sane’s disallowed goal from last season on Wednesday but he did anyway. Guardiola clearly still isn’t over his side going out of the Champions League courtesy of the Reds in their last campaign and that Sane goal being disallowed must haunt him. As one fan tweeted Guardiola could have chosen a host of other incidents to make his case regarding Sterling, such as Diego Maradona’s infamous hand of god goal. Yet soon as he was able to the Man City boss opted to bring up Liverpool and that says a lot. The Reds may have dropped points against Arsenal and may have suffered a shock loss in their latest Champions League outing, but Guardiola clearly knows Jurgen Klopp’s side are a threat to his team winning trophies this season.
