Liverpool have quality in every position on the pitch, indeed Jurgen Klopp’s side are extremely close to being a complete team.

However, there is one player who would instantly take this Reds side from contenders to champions – in both the Premier League and the Champions League.

Marco Asensio is a player who Marca reported this summer Liverpool were interested in. Now, Spanish publication Don Balon claim that new Real Madrid manager Santiago Solari is looking to offload the playmaker in January.

This is the perfect time for the Reds to pounce. Solari is only in charge until the end of the season and, given Asensio’s talent, it’s likely that whoever replaces him will want to keep the Spain international at the Bernabeu.

It’s critical, then, that Liverpool take advantage of Solari’s desire to rid himself of the 22-year-old. Asensio is a world class talent who has shined at Madrid for the last year or so – getting him would be just the thing to take Klopp’s side to the next level.

Given that the team were reportedly interested in Asensio in the past, it stands to reason that they would be open to swooping for him in the winter transfer window.

We’ve seen recently that the Reds can be stymied offensively. They haven’t looked as free-flowing going forward this campaign as they did last season.

Asensio’s addition would put an end to that. He is one of the most creative players in Europe, capable of changing games in an instant.

He has experienced playing for the biggest club in world football, meaning that he wouldn’t be intimidated by the frenzied Anfield atmosphere.

Liverpool are now in a position where they are one of the few teams in Europe who could sign a player from Madrid and that player not view the transfer as a significant step down.

If Asensio truly isn’t wanted in the Spanish capital then Liverpool must do everything they can to show him that he is coveted beyond measure on Merseyside. He really would transform this Reds team.
