Liverpool CEO Peter Moore reportedly told the press he had a train to catch when asked to explain Richard Scudamore’s £5million payout, and many Reds fans have taken to Twitter to slam the senior man.

As reported by AP reporter Rob Harris, Moore is said to have failed to answer any questions after the Premier League agreed on the seven-figure payment, instead telling people he had a train to catch.

Liverpool fans have been reacting to Moore’s response on Twitter, with many slamming the senior figure and claiming he is an embarrassment to the club.

COMMENTARY

These Liverpool fans are obviously very disappointed by their Moore’s decision to walk away from questioning over the deal. The likelihood is also that the Reds backed the payment being made to Scudamore, with Liverpool not named among those teams who opposed such a decision. Moore’s decision to not answer questions lends itself further to that being the case, and that will disappoint fans greatly. Liverpool have put schemes in place recently involving food banks among many other charitable causes, and the fact that clubs were so quick to back this payment illustrates how out of touch many club executives are. Scudamore has obviously contributed greatly to the success of the Premier League over the 19 years he has been involved, but he will also have been rewarded handsomely during that time. For another £5million to be handed over to him is nothing short of a disgrace, and clubs should be ashamed at their willingness to back such a move, including Liverpool.
