COMMENTARY
A section of Liverpool fans made it clear they weren’t impressed with Joe Gomez’s performance in the 2-1 loss to Paris St-Germain even though some opted to provide reasons for his struggles. The 21-year-old was played as a right-back rather than as centre-back where he has had great success this season and it was easy to see why supporters blamed the position switch for his display. One may have labelled his performance a ‘nightmare’ but it was clear that Gomez was only uncomfortable as he was dealing with PSG’s world class attack while playing as a full-back. Also Gomez’s problems at right-back effected the Reds going forward, especially in the first half, as well. Usually Trent Alexander-Arnold bursts forward when playing in that position but Gomez seemed reluctant to charge forward and this saw the Reds’ attacking threat weaker than usual as a result. Hopefully Jurgen Klopp realises his mistake and Gomez is quickly put back in the centre of defence. The 21-year-old may have previously been regularly deployed as a right-back but that simply can’t be the case anymore.

Liverpool look jaded, with no spark,no rhythm. Gomes,Wijnaldum are the stand-out garbage in a garbage performance. Getting out played all over the pitch. Here's to a much improved 2nd half. #LFC

PSG forwards are attacking lug LFC forwards from last year, Firminio too deep and back to goal all the time now. Gomez final ball not good enough and lazy track back for the first goal. Not natural position #lfc
