AC Milan are interested in a January swoop for Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana, according to Calciomercato

The Italian football outlet report that the Serie A side are in the hunt for a player to replace Giacomo Bonaventura, who is set for nine months or so out with a serious knee injury.

Calciomercato claim that the recent arrival of Ivan Gazidis as a director from Arsenal has opened up the English market to Milan, who are now mulling over a move for England international Lallana.

It is said that the 30-year-old’s technique and vision, along with his contract ending in 2020, make Lallana an attractive target for the Serie A giants.

Lallana has been a favourite of Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool in the past, with the manager admitting it was “easy to enjoy watching him” play in October [Liverpool website].

OPINION

It would certainly be a bit of a surprise to see Lallana in an AC Milan shirt come the end of January, but crazier things have happened in the world of football. Granted, the 30-year-old is not as indispensable to Jurgen Klopp as he once was, but he is still known to be a valued member of the Liverpool squad. Klopp has always rated Lallana for his work-rate and his exemplary technique, which looks to be the exact reasons Milan are chasing him. Liverpool supporters are not such big fans of Lallana, and many would no doubt be fine with seeing him leave, but they may miss him more than they realise if that happens. He offers a solid extra option to Klopp when his starting midfield is not quite working out, and his work-rate is always high. It would make little sense for the club to let him leave in January, so this one does look unlikely at the moment.
